How to Not Get Clocked
The reads that keep you off the table
You cannot stop the room from watching. What you can do is keep your tells off the table, long enough that the watcher never locks on. Here is the move.
The Six Reads
- Know your tells - the slip is not the mistake, the repeat is.
- One move, not a pattern - a tell becomes a clock when it happens twice.
- Watch the watcher - the read is not whether you slipped, it is whether they locked on.
- Keep one clean move after the slip - a clean move after the almost keeps you on the table.
- Do not overcompensate - the over-reaction is its own tell.
- Know when to stop - the moment the clock is on, the move is not clean anymore.
Where the Window Closes
A tell is not a clock. A clock is the watcher locking on while you are still playing. The window closes the moment they know you know. In the clocked read-off you feel which of the three - clean, almost, clocked - a moment is doing, and whether the watcher has already closed the window.
Run It
A moment lands, you call the level. If you catch the almost before it becomes the clocked, you are still on the table. That is the whole skill.
