Clocked, the Three Levels
Being read is not binary, it is a scale
The trap with clocked is calling every slip "clocked." A clean move is still clean. A full clock is the room already reading you. There is a whole middle in between. Here is the scale.
The Three Levels
- Clean - the move holds. No tell showing, the room does not know what you are doing.
- Almost - a tell just showed. Someone felt it, no one confirmed it yet. The edge.
- Clocked - seen through. The room is waiting for you to show it, and you did not realize.
The One Telling
The split between almost and clocked is timing. Almost is the tell showing before the watcher locks onto it - you still have a move left. Clocked is the watcher locking on and you not knowing the window has closed. That gap - the moment the read stops being a feeling and becomes a fact - is the whole word.
Feel the Line
In the clocked read-off a moment lands and you call which of the three it is doing. Read the almost off from the clocked, and you have learned where the window actually closes.
