What Clanker Means
The word for the line that sounds like a droid wrote it.
The root: clanker comes from the Star Wars register, where it is the sound a carbon-based person makes about the droids - the clatter of metal on metal, and the attitude that goes with it. It is the word for the machine side of any conversation.
The Gen Alpha turn: the generation that grew up with an assistant in every app borrowed it and pointed it at AI-flavored language. A clanker line is the one that is too smooth, too balanced, too careful to be anyone's actual voice. It is what you say when you have clearly been talking to a chatbot all day and it has started showing up in your own sentences.
Why it is a game: because spotting it is a reflex now. The game drops a thread and asks which line is the clanker - the one that is over-hedged and over-polite and says a lot and means nothing. The answer is never the meanest line; it is the one that is the least human.
