The Two Sides of a Read
What banks the glow, what spends it
A gain is the move where you showed up for the thing - did the unglamorous part, said it out loud, kept the word, took the high road and meant it. A loss is the move that looks the same from the outside but is quietly coasting - the bare minimum called grace, the credit with a straight face, the easy way winning on your watch. The tell is one question: did you actually do the thing, or just make it look like you did?
The Telling Split
- A gain costs you something on the spot - time, face, the easy exit.
- A loss saves you the cost and calls the saving a virtue.
- Coasting is always the cheaper move, which is why it wins by default.
Why the Read Is Harder Than It Looks
Because the losses are dressed up as the gains - "I let it rest" is the loss wearing the gain's clothes. The whole skill is spotting the costume. In the game, that is the difference between a clean read and the one that quietly drains the pool.
How To Play
Step 1. A move lands, call gain or loss.
Step 2. A gain cost you something; a loss saved you.
Step 3. Watch the combo, not the pool.
Step 4. A miss breaks the combo and drains the pool.
Step 5. Keep the glow up under speed.
Step 6. Log your net aura.
