The smash bros boast is the cheerful, almost childlike taunt - I will beat you up in the game - paired with a character who would never step foot in it. The coffee-gulp dancing man, the hedgehog, the potato. The joke is the mismatch: the line is a confident challenge and the face doing the choreography has zero business being there. The game is that read - which of the faces is the one that least belongs in the ring, and how fast you can feel the gap.
