Glazing, Hype, and Shilling
Same family, three directions
Three words all sit on the "this praise is a lot" line, and none of them mean the same thing. Glazing is the shiny over-praise. The others lean into a different off.
The Three Directions
- Hype - the energy is real, it is just loud. The feeling is not off, the volume is.
- Glazing - the shine is doing work the thing is not doing. The compliment has no point behind it.
- Shilling - the praise has a pocket. It is not a read, it is a push.
Where Glazing Sits
Glazing is the middle of the road - the plain, no-purse, no-anger version. Hype has the feeling, shilling has the pocket, and glaze is just the coat without a point. In the glazing meter you feel which of the three a line of praise is actually doing, and whether it has crossed from a real read into the shine.
