Why Would I Deceive You
The phrase is a shield, not a question
Say it out loud: "I wouldn't deceive you." It sounds like reassurance, but in the middle of a real disagreement it almost always closes the argument instead of opening it. It is a way of saying the thing is not up for discussion while wearing a sincere face. The game is built on that split - four replies land, and only one of them is actually telling the truth without a self-serving coat over it.
The Two Faces
- A coat - the line that sounds like care but is really a close ("I only said it for your own good").
- The truth - the one that stays open ("I was wrong. Here is what I will do differently").
- Only one of the four is the truth. The rest are coats.
Why It Is a Game
Because the coat is easy to reach for - it is comfortable, it protects you, it sounds reasonable. The whole skill is holding off the coat and grabbing the one that keeps the argument honest. Streaks of clean reads earn the integrity read.
