Matching the Dance to the Cringe
The challenge is reading the cringe and picking the dance that matches its degree of awkward.
Every cringe has a degree: "snack theft at 2 AM" is a small cringe - quiet, guilty, low-key. "Trying on shoes in a store while the clerk watches" is a medium cringe - performative, on display. "Dancing at a funeral of a friend you half-liked" is the top cringe - the situation has no correct answer. The tip-toe amplitude that fits is the point, and the challenge asks you to read that.
How to read it: the scene tells you the stakes. Low stakes - small, private, no audience - want a small tip-toe, barely on the balls of the feet. High stakes - public, watched, no graceful exit - want the full wobble, the wide arms, the committed waddle. Match the amplitude to the cringe, and the card scores you on how close the two lines up.
Why it is the social bit: the challenge runs on shared memory - everyone has the 2 AM snack theft, everyone has the shoe store. The card is your read of the cringe, and two people matching the same scene to different amplitudes is the whole argument: "no, that one is way more cringe than you think."
