How the Three Beats Land
The spike is not the end of it
Most of the time the panic is the beat people live in. Something spikes, the chest goes up, the next step feels heavy, and the whole thing stays that way for a while. The oh look is the move that breaks that - the spike, then the thing, then the calm. Not the spike going away on its own, but a small thing showing up that takes the pressure off.
Beat One - The Spike
The problem that climbs. You are up on the wall of it, and the next step is the one that would tip you over. This is the beat everyone feels and almost no one names. Most resets do not start here, which is why they fail.
Beat Two - The Thing
A small thing shows up that takes the pressure off. Not a solution, not a fix - just enough to stop the climb. A note you were not expecting, a hand you were not asking for, a second you did not have to spend alone. The thing is smaller than the spike, and that is the whole point.
Beat Three - The Calm
The beat after the thing. You are even again and you do not have to explain how you got there. The calm is not the absence of the spike - it is the state after the thing has done its work. In the oh look game you feel all three beats at once and call the second one before it lands.
