How To Write Impossible Challenges

Three moves that keep the line dry, and the one place where the line ends.

Move 1: make the subject one scale bigger than the action. The gap is the joke. "A politician" against "tells the truth" has a gap; "me" against "tries" does not. When you write for yourself, the subject is "me" and the scale gap has to come from the action instead - "me going to bed before 2am" works because the action is quietly specific about a war everyone is losing, not because the subject is big. The rule is always: one of the two pieces has to carry the weight, and it is rarely both.

Move 2: keep the verdict at one word. The format has one slot, and the word that fills it in the wild is the same word every time, in the same size, in the same parentheses. The temptation is to upgrade it - "impossible (actually)" - and the line dies the moment the verdict gets a companion. The smallness is the dryness. If you are explaining the verdict, the format is not running.

The line ends at the closing parenthesis. Everything after it is a new sentence, and the new sentence is not part of the joke.

Move 3: pick the engine before you pick the subject. Satirical lines run on the subject - the impossibility is a habit, a personality, a standing joke about the kind of person. Literal lines run on the limit - the impossibility is the physics, and the subject can be anyone. Decide which one you are writing, and the subject picks itself: the satirical subject has to be a character with a record, the literal subject can stay generic. Writing the wrong engine with the right words is how a line reads "almost funny" and is not.

The card you leave with. The generator card in the game is the working form: subject, action, verdict, in post style, ready to screenshot. The quick-read part is the check - eight lines in two and a half seconds each, and the card at the end is the sarcasm index, which is just the count of the lines you read on the engine that was actually running. The better the number, the more of the feed you can read without the feed noticing.
