The silence is the move
He is quietly not looking at the thing - that is the whole setup, and the read is the question: which silence do you break, and which one do you let stay quiet? The meme is the ignore itself, but the game plays the harder half, which is telling the ones you should name from the ones you should let slide. Most of the time the instinct is to say too much, and the second hardest thing after that is knowing when to say nothing at all.

Why It Is a Game
Because the wrong silence and the right one are the same size - it is not obvious which to break. And the pace is part of the read: the call that is late is not a call at all, it is just noise. The game scores both the choice and the speed, and the two have to agree for it to count.
