Did You Say Potential?
A shield, not a claim
"I have huge potential" is the most comfortable sentence ever invented. It asks for nothing: no record, no finished thing, no cost to be wrong. It is a shield - the way to sound promising without ever having to prove it. The game is the split behind that sentence: is the claim backed by something you can point to, or is it just a word that floats past?
Backed vs. A Word
- Backed - points to something real: a finished thing, a record, a number you already have.
- Just a word - an adjective, an excuse of a "shot not given", a promise of genius waiting to happen.
- The test is one question: can I point to it right now, or only later?
Why It Is a Game
Because the word version is comfortable and fast, and that is exactly when the read matters. Streaks of clean calls earn the backing read - the reflex that a promise without a pointer is not evidence, it is weather.
